Rainbow Region Kids launches Discovery Club

Outside School Hours Care just got better

Discovery Club @ Rainbow Region Kids is a new program that offers innovative and stimulating projects to children who attend our Rainbow Region Kids services throughout the Northern Rivers region. It provides children with opportunities to maximise their engagement, learning, play, connection and potential.

These exciting projects are part of the Southern Cross University Live Ideas program, facilitated and led by passionate students from the university who work as volunteers at our child care services.

Our Discovery Club projects include environmental sciences, information technology, robotics, imaginative art experiences, drama, music, indigenous knowledge, poetry, script writing, cooking, design, digital media, communication, cartooning, graffiti, contemporary music, homework assistance, brain exercises, soccer, cricket and tennis.

The benefits to our Rainbow Region Kids are numerous. Discovery Club projects increase children’s engagement and connection, they strengthen relationships, respect for diversity, appreciation for cultural identity and a sense of belonging, they encourage autonomy, interdependence and resilience, they enhance social, emotional and physical wellbeing, and they build skills in problem solving, experimentation, research and investigation.

Discovery Club is great for our student facilitators too. They gain experience working with children at our established services, they benefit from expert supervision and mentorship and they get to contribute directly to our communities.

As volunteers working through Community Gateway, they access benefits available to all of our volunteers including information, training and support.

So if you have a child that attends Rainbow Region Kids, get ready to see an increase in activity, excitement and people at the service. If your child does not attend Rainbow Region Kids and you’d like to get them involved in our exciting new Discovery Club program, call us on 02 6621 7397 or email rrkassist@nrcg.org.au.

If you’re a student at Southern Cross University and want to contribute to Discovery Club with ideas and projects for kids, check out more details here.
